I was feeling very creative one night and decided to make a collage for my Auntie Terri. She's my crafting idol, you know. She has a beautiful craft room, and I thought she needed an inspiration piece to put on display. I found an old window in someone's garbage a while back. It was very interesting since it was small and had thick glass. I can't imagine what it would be used for industrially, but I loved it!
Small Window - Free
First, I cleaned it with some all-purpose cleaner and picked away any grout-stuff with my X-acto knife. Next, I painted it black using basic craft-store acrylic paint. After the paint was dry, I sanded it lightly to create a shabby look.
Once the collage was complete, I attached it to the window with glue and spread two layers of Mod Podge over it to give it a finished look.
Gotta love Mod Podge!
Here it is, folks! The finished product:
"Time to Create Your Vision" - get it? get it?
To make the collage, I used a variety of items. The background is made from decorative scrapbook paper. The images are from various sources - old vintage books and magazines, and a cool movie trivia game I found at a garage sale for 25 cents a while back (that's where the diva lady came from). The letters spelling the word "create" are from a vintage spelling game I picked up from a garage sale for 50 cents. Super fun! The glasses and key are from the best barn sale I've ever attended. I think I went about two years ago. The man told me that the bigger my pile of junk got, the lower my final price would get. Needless to say, it was one of the best days of my life to date.
I particularly love this window because it stands on its own.
Hope to find more of them someday!
For my first collage, I am quite happy.

ReplyDeleteThis very beautiful collage holds a place of honor in my creative space. BTW, we were supposed to have a 'name the space' contest over CT weekend....I need some input from my "girls"....what shall I name my space? I don't want to call it "my office, my room, the spare room, etc...I want a fun, funky, inspiring name for the place I go to retreat, ponder, relax, create, reflect and BE. Any suggestions??????
